Quality over Quantity
Would you rather be in a pack of 10 wolves or herd of 100 sheep? Would you rather have 4 quarters or 100 pennies?
I started New Work City about four months ago, due to a suggestion from a friend. He insisted that if I started a blog people would read it because they’re interested in my life experiences and what I have to say. Fast forward to today, I only have about 20 subscribers. To me that’s still a solid amount of faithful subscribers. Compared to other Substacks, the amount isn’t that great. Any number of supporters matters and here’s why.
Out of the five readers that tuned in to my last post within the first 24 hours, the only feedback I got was from a senior analyst at a venture capitalist firm. Solid feedback from a person of that stature can be more valuable than vague and empty words from 100,000 low-status people.
I learned this lesson last year when helping create and source writers to contribute to a newsletter for an investment firm client based in Hong Kong. High-level content only read by a handful of genius executives is more valuable than mid-tier content consumed by the masses. Well, how do you define value in this context? Impact is value. Specific information created to help aid senior managers make decisions about where to allocate millions or even billions of capital is more impactful than basic information read by millions of consumers.
When you pass a certain threshold of intelligence, most people won’t understand what you’re talking about anyway. Why do you think mainstream media is so successful? Their content is dumbed down so anybody can understand. Similar to a ventriloquist, they play on the basis of human nature through emotions like fear and anger which can be easily manipulated among the masses.
A sobering truth which I’ve recently come to realize is minorities, especially black people, are easy targets when using these tactics. Why do you think there’s always headlines in the news about police brutality or “black on black” crime? It’s because the media knows those topics are not only easy clickbait titles that will drive traffic to their websites but they also stir up outrage.
Most crimes are documented when they occur but for some reason, crimes involving black people seem to stay on top of the news cycles. Mainstream media content is low quality and low vibrational. Corporations keep it on a certain level intentionally.
Whether it’s friends, relationships, jobs, or anything else, quality always trumps quantity. In a corporate environment, the say so of a C-suite executive holds more weight than 40 entry level workers. Get the right people’s attention and make the most of it when you do.
Great post! I love your insights into how the world works and more importantly, how to make the world work for YOU!
Thank you!
